Get Flash content on your iPhone (kind of)

Posted by Julian  Published in iPab, iStuff

iTransmogrifyOne major missing feature of the Safari browser on the iPhone has been the lack of Flash support. There are many rumored reasons for this, but it is still annoying to us, the end user.Well, is there is a workaround online that allows you to view some Flash content in your browser. It is not true Flash content, but rather content that has been transmogrified. What is transmogrification? Let us explain.

iTransmogrify is actually a Safari iPhone Bookmarklet which replaces the Flash content with a format natively supported by the iPhone (like Quicktime). An example of this might be; if you are looking at a page with youtube content embedded in it, iTransmogrify will replace it with a Quicktime version pulled from YouTube. But this will only work if YouTube has allready stored a version of the clip in Quicktime format on its servers. This also works with mp3’s that might be embedded within a Flash player.

Want to see it in action? Click here for a YouTube demo or just download the iTransmogrify code yourself from www.joemaller.com.

Control your car with the iPhone - Bond style!

Posted by Julian  Published in General iPhone News, iPab, iStuff

iPhone car controllerWe all remember that ludicrous scene from Tomorrow Never Dies where James Bond controls his Astin Martin with his Sony Ericcson. Well it may not be as far fetched as it sounds if Delphi get there way. Gizmodo came across the Delphi stand on the last day of CES and saw their latest prototype of an iPhone web app that they had controlling a car in the stand.

With the iPhone the user could access core car stats, open and close doors and windows, set custom seat positioning and even start the ignition!

Macworld 2008 - Biggest yet?

Posted by Julian  Published in General iPhone News, iStuff

I was thinking of writing my own article to this effect, but Gizmodo have this nailed. So here it is from them.

The Macworld Iceberg

T minus four days and counting. Steve Jobs’ Macworld 2008 keynote is next Tuesday and at this point we only know one thing for sure: something big is coming from Apple. Maybe not one single iceberg-sized thing, but this year we believe the Boom Count™ is going to be so high that Apple had to take their new big irons out of the way to clear the launching pad.

And if it wasn’t enough, there’s plenty of evidence that points out the magnitude and importance of next week’s announcements:

New Belkin TuneCast Auto now iPhone savvy

Posted by Julian  Published in iStuff

New Belkin TuneCast AutoAs I am sure most of you are aware CES, the American Consumer Electronics Show, is running this week in Vegas. Now while I am not good enough to score myself a journalist invite to this event of Geekdom heaven, I am happy to report a piece of iPhone related news from abroad.

The Belkin TuneCast is an FM transmitter for iPods. This is great for frustrated users like myself who drive new fangled Prius’ that are no longer equipped with tape decks or audio in jacks. Instead I used to use the TuneCast to broadcast my ipod into my car stereo. The current model however does not work with the iPhone. Trust me I tried!!

But at CES today, Belkin announced that the next model of the TuneCast Auto, due February, will finally support the iPhone. The price released was for US only and is listed at a low $80.

Get more life out of your iPhone

Posted by Julian  Published in iStuff

One thing I don’t like about the iPhone (and there aren’t many gripes) is that I cant change the battery. I spend a lot of time out of the office and on the road. If I forget my car charger and my battery dies, then that’s it! This is where the Morphie Juice Pack comes in to save the day.

The company claims that, by plugging your iPhone into the dock, you’ll get an increased standby time of 250 hours, audio playback of 24 hours, talk time of 8 hours, video playback of 7 hours, or Internet use of 6 hours (obviously, all mixed up and depending upon what you use the iPhone most for).

It also includes four LEDs which show how much battery charge is left on the unit, and power is always drained from the accessory before the iPhone’s own battery is used.

For more information or to order, click here to be taken to the Morphie website.

New app ‘Missing Sync’ for iPhone released

Posted by Julian  Published in iStuff

Did you know iPhones store a maximum of 1,000 SMS messages but has no built in filter or sorting features? Or that it does not natively sync notes? What about those many new iPhone users who want to sync an olde device like a blackberry across to their shiny new iPhone. Well now there is a new app from mark/space that does all that and more.

Fingerless? Never fear the iPhone stylus is here!

Posted by Jack  Published in iStuff

One of the main features of the iPhone is it’s stylus-less touchscreen, one company obviously didn’t recieve that memo and have come out with an iPhone stylus, to help you press those pesky little keyboard buttons that some have trouble with. If you really must have one they are available from tenonedesign.com for $25 USD (about $30 AUD I think). Oh, and if that isn’t ridiculous enough, it’s also called the ‘Pogo Stylus’!

What would you add/change to/about the iPhone

Posted by Jack  Published in iStuff

Well, we all know the iPhone isn’t perfect (not quite anyway), but if you were Steve Jobs’ bestest buddy, what would you make him change about the iPhone. For me personally I would, ummm, well I think the iPhone is already perfect (note to Apple: wanna give me free stuff?). Post your opinion’s below.
