It’s a sad day today when I have to announce that the first iPhone virus (and sadly, I guess, the first of many) is now out in the wilderness and apparently it’s catchy.Many say that it is impossible for those using OSX to get viruses. And, as we all know, the iPhone uses the same famed OS. But the reality is that users can still choose to manually install the virus themselves. This is called stupidity.But sadly, with the iPhone mod scene so active, many users feel that they can download safely any app on the AppTap. The reality is that this is false.

This week an apparently 11 year old student put an app onto the sources lists called “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep”. t has nothing to do with 1.1.3 and is instead a nasty little trojan.

While installing it does nothing, uninstalling it will damage a pile of programs in the iPhone’s bin folder like Erica’s Utilities, OpenSSH, Doom, and Launcher. Now these can all be reinstalled, it is a pain and the ass and sadly looks like a sign of things to come.

Good news is that as far as we are aware, the app has been removed and the child’s father was alerted. But if you do see this floating around, AVOID IT!

Randall Stepherson aka Mr. AT&T, has outed the 3G iPhone while talking to his uber rich pals at the Churchill Club in Santa Clara (he obviously took the name to heart thinking he was the fat jolly man with a red coat!) saying “You’ll have it next year” the device will (according to Mr AT&T anyway!), run on the AT&T network and El Jobso “will dictate what the price of the phone is”. Hopefully this means when the iPhone is released in Aus, it will be available in the 3G version, fingers crossed people!

El Jobso (otherwise known as Steve Jobs) the Apple CEO (Duh!) yesterday announced that the Brits Pommys will get their mits on the iPhone on the 9th of November, at a slightly higher cost and on contract with iPhone’s exclusive provider (in the UK) O2. Today it was also announced that the Germans would recieve their iPhone’s on the same date, but with the exclusive provider as T-Mobile. Sadly no 3G for either of them (not that I care that much). Hopefully Mr. Jobs will announce iPhone in aus shortly (crosses fingers).

Nooo! According to Sydney Morning Herald (and many other sources) the iPhone will not be hitting the shores of Australia (and Asia) until early 2008. However, hackers are ever closer to breaking the iPhone unlock, and we will all keep our fingers (and toes and any other crossable body part) crossed that it will work in Aus.
