I got a white 16 gig
Up here in cairns there are heaps of iPhones I walked in to the optus store on Friday afternoon and there were still heaps left and no line I was so suprised!
Anyway it’s brilliant =) I love the phonesaber app
Hi, Just wondering if the phones delivered to Au suffer the same yellow screen issues that have cropped up. The last thing I want on a 2 year contract is to have a phone that has a screen coloured like piss!
To clarify there have been slot of reports regarding a distint yellow cast on the 3g iPhones displays.
I have a black 8 gig.
But I can’t complain, I have an iPhone
I’m wondering is Aus has ringtones on itunes, no songs I’ve come across have the bell sign. I really hope they do, Australia seems to always get things last and we don’t get told
does your screen have the yellow tinge?
Tom
I’m not sure but if you got your plan with optus you should be able to get insurance for $10 a month which means you can get ur iPhone fixed ifthe screen does go yellow
I’m not sure if telstra or vodafone have something similar they probably do =)
As for the yellow tinge, I heard it can be fixed by simply restoring the firmware on iTunes.
@My earlier post: I realise that the iphone only just came out in Aus but I was hoping it would come in 7.7 *sigh*
The ringtone icon only appears next to songs you have bought at the iTunes store
I got my hands on an 8GB. Took 2 hours of waiting, and another 2 hours for the credit check because the system went down, but it was worth it.
@Jack: I went to the american version of the store and they were next to songs that weren’t bought yet, I’ve got ringtones enabled in the view panel, At least one of my songs should have it? I’ve only got 160 but still they’re well known songs.
Hey guys!! does it seem to you in Aus that the 3G iphone might have an unlock method soon?
Am I the only one pissed off by the plans offered by the three providers? $169 per month for 1G of data? Is that a joke?
I unfortunately missed out on the iPhone on Friday:( I woke up at 6am to get in line and there where hundreds of ppl in front of the store. After 2 hours of waiting the manager of the optus world shop decided to tell everyone they had run out of iPhones after only 10 people were served! REDICULOUS! I am still waiting to have the iphone experience:(
I got my iphone - Optus at Westfield Miranda still had them left yesterday.. I unfortunately spent 3 hours in the queue from Midnight on Thursday to get mine..
Seems getting the phone was the easy thing — Getting a car charger seems more difficult…
It rocks though.. I am very pleased
No yellow tinge and Itunes finally synced Friday PM - I was at work all day on Friday anyway so it did not matter..
To all those there are still phones around
When do people think the next shipments will come?
I signed up for my contract at about 4pm on friday at Strathfield and they said it should be this week.
I got a feeling its gonna be longer?
When will it come!
to zmac: they said the same thing to me! im number 12th on the list and the manager of the optus store said it would be 3-10 days, but it has to be longer!
I just walked right in the optus store in the Valley and they had a few Iphones left, all on Plans. So im on a 12 month contract, but the Iphone is awesome!
@ Tom
Apparently its been designed like that and clarified by Apple,when enquired about the yellow screen.Check out an iphone review called First 24 hours with the iphone 3g on youtube by a user called jon4lakers,he addresses the issue there
Regards
I stood out the front of my Optus store from 4am on the morning of the release, wanting a 16GB model, only to find that my Optus store only had 8GB models in stock. I needed to order a 16GB for the next shipment, hopefully coming in this week.
Optus and Apple failed on this launch. Not happy.
Spodee - if you use a mac you can download ituner (there is a trial version). this will let you move songs from itune onto your phone that you can use as a ringtone.
i totally agree! both apple and optus failed this launch… disappointing
@sheri05: I’m using windows (and hating it and planning to get an iMac by the end of the year)
I heard about a program that uses windows but I’m a bit iffy that it might have some errors which I read about in forums.
Anyone know if apple will release a ringtone feature for Aus?
I’m emailing them now.
hey umm how much they cost?
I couldn’t get one because the Optus store that I queued outside for over an hour refused to sell any phones pre-paid. They had stock, they just refused to sell pre-paid.
I’ve also read of shops that would only sell the 8GB models pre-paid. Meaning they had pre-pay SIM cards, they had 16GB iPhones, but they refused to sell them together.
Basically they were desperately trying to lock people into contracts. The lying asshole shopboy at the Optus store I queued at would also only offer 24-months, he wouldn’t even let me go for just 12 months. So I told him to stick it (politely!)
I would rather wait and buy it outright as planned than get screwed by Optus for two years. All their deceptive and coercive behaviour has done is to convince me to go to Three as soon as possible. Before I thought that I might stay on their network at least for a while, buying the pre-paid $100 Turbo caps, now I’m dead set on seeing the back of them asap.
Re: Ringtones…
You can also use Garageband to either a) make your own ringtone or b) import any itunes track.
Simple as!
i got my vodafone store to put one aside fore me but they didn’t even receive any stock at all, only 5 stores in WA got stock and two of then were if remote areas. apple didn’t organize this launch very well because the store only found out midnight the morning of the launch that they would not be receiving any, oh well now i have to wait till the 25th to get mine but i still cant wait all the same.
I feel guilty that I just went to a shop in Sydney CBD and picked my 16GB in half an hour without queuing. Didn’t cheat or have someone that I know at the store… the store was just empty, compare to Apple store just 100m away?
I agree with most of you but I guess the shortage of stock even happened in U.S I think ?
Anyway, as a former iPhone user ( which means… used to hacked iPhone), I’m so surprised by the App store and their ripoff price…
NOT all of them, but only some of them…
I still respect their effort, but just feel that it’s not quite right. For instance, the pianist app is $6. It’s just same with one we used to download from free repositories. It’s all good charging money for that… but my question is … has he made any extra effort to make it commercial ? $6 is not a big money but still a lot of money to just show off…
Good example is … three different flash Apps on the store.
those three are all same (pretty much), one is charging $1 for it while other two are free.
it’s just flash light using iPhone screen you can change colour or make it blinking.
Come on guys, where all your ‘FREE SHARING’ spirits gone ?
They need to change system to allow them to post free applications with donation menu.
I actually donated few time when i was using old hacked iphone, as long as they’re useful and worth it. Now, we have to buy Apps without trial.
Sad… rip off by Apple Inc.
Got my 16gb White from Strathfield Bondi Junction on Friday morning.
Synced it up with iTunes that day and it’s been all good since then.
Re: Ringtones, check this link out. It’s easy to do it yourself in iTunes:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2160460_custom-iphone-ringtones-free.html
Wellllll.
I was in another town when the iPhone came out.
The shop there was only selling them to pre-order customers.
Of course.
Lol.
So i just left it.
Now, im back home, in Casino.
The town across, Lismore, is selling them. (:
I rang the Optus World store there this morning..
and they said they were most likely getting new stock in today, and said that they’d ring me. I’m on the list.
I’ll be getting a 16GB WHITE iphone.
yayyyyyyyyyy.
They haven’t rang me yet, but soon hopefully.
Fingers crossed.
@Ben
I got my 16GB white at Strathfield in pitt street mall. I wasn’t even on pre-order… walked in around 8:15 got it at 8:50 LOL
Strathfield rocks!!
another problem is this iPhone 2.0 is damn slow
@Ben
that ringtone method is blocked now ?
I’d suggest make your short MP3 then use this Application (Mac OSX only)
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/iToner/
it’s a piece of cake as long as you have ringtone file already.
@Rhiannon don’t get your hopes up, I called optus 2day to see when the iPhone would be coming back in stock and they said by the end of the week or next week and will give me a call ASAP, it sucks being patient =[
From news article…
Apple has ran out of stock within 3 days from launching day.
@Rhiannon: I’m really sorry to be the one to tell you this but I live in Lismore and the people at optus world said they had 8 pages of (bigger than a4) sheets with at least fifty names on each that’s 400 people in front of you! They said they would get “mass amounts” in the next few weeks but it’s anyone’s guess how many that is. Though most people don’t want white 16 GB, good luck!
By the way today at allphones when i got a case for my iphone, I was talking to the man there and he said about how little there were and suddenly a guy comes over with a white iphone (employee activating it) and the person I was talking to said it was the last 16 GB iphone in the country!!! That’s not 8GB too but that means EVERY 16GB iphone in Australia has been sold!
Good luck to everyone trying to get an iphone, my thoughts are with you guys
@Min: Damn everything is mac only, guess I’ll be waiting until I get a mac later this year or itunes gets ringtones for aus.
Though my issue is nothing compared to most of you without an iphone, sorry to complain
Has anybody managed to get a car charger that actually works without restricting the phone to flight mode?
@wotnoiphone: I’ve seen 3 (?) different types of car chargers so far and all said nothing about flight mode, I haven’t gotten a car charger yet but I’d wait until a few more brands release them and check them all out, I really want one without flight mode kicking in too so I’l comment if I find one
awesome duuuuuudes.
lol
i’m not reeeeally getting my hopes up all too much.
like.. i’ll get one eventually.
might con mum into taking me to ballina tomorrow..
hrm.
i dunno, but yeah, i’m not expecting one really soon, it’d just be nice.
fingers still crossed though.
lmao.
@min
No that method still works, I just tried it myself.
Pretty quick and easy.
Although unlike those instructions, it’s easier to find the file by right-clicking on it in iTunes and clicking Show in Explorer
I just went to the Apple store in Sydney and got my 16gig black with Optus. There was a bit of a wait but I was there early so didn’t have to wait that long. There was no wait at all for Telstra or Vodafone. Their plans are rubbish compared to Optus(especially Telstra). Compared to my iPhone 1(unlocked) the screen looks the same so luckly it doesn’t suffer the yellow color cast that some people are reporting. I want my whites white not yellow! If your in Sydney and want one try your luck at the Apple store.
re the unlock for firmware 2.0. It won’t be long.
I went to Westfield North Lakes Yesterday and went around to look at the iPhone deals. Might i say that Optus is BY FAR THE BEST WAY TO GO. Much more usage and value. The bad thing is that i have to wait for more to come in stock
although the wait will be worth it. The guy said the wait will be around 7-10 days
I keep waking up at night thinking about my iPhone
Hi. I’m moving to Australia next month from the US. I have the older version of the iphone and wondering if anyone knows whether there’s a way to use it in Aus. Plus, how much does the full service cost there - with the internet access and all? Thanks!
La la la la.
I’m surprised about how patient i’m being.
I’m expecting to have to wait a fair while..
I’m just distracting myself more with things.
lmao.
Thursday! I’m seeing The Dark Knight.
That should be really good.
Yay.
Im STILL waiting for my iphone! the suspense is killing me! im going to Sydney tonight for a work trip, might pop by the new apple store. Do they still have the iPhone in stock? or should i not bother?
@kitaaa
I guess so as there are still mass waiting around
Apple store. And if you can afford Telstra non cap plan (e.g) $60 plan with $50 call credit and $10 data.) you can go to Telstra. I spoke to a Telstra guy yesterday and he said they have plenty of iPhones at the moment. They don’t have cap plan for iPhone at the moment.
Lol. The telstra people have plenty of iPhones left, because they’re assholes.
I found it funny walking around a couple of shopping centers on the day after release and seeing the posters “Sorry, we have no iphones today” in the windows. Apple sure did know that they would have no where near enough stock for the demand. Good ole Strathfield was doing the “There is no iPhones in Australia but if you sign up with us now i can guarantee you will get one in the next few weeks” sell which cracked me up. I, like alot of other people waited for the Vodafone pricing and never preordered the phone from optus, ended up going to Telechoice and orderd from there, they was only ordering prepay iPhones when i went in which suited me fine, 16gig black on it’s way.
Gah! I HATE being a teenager and not having a job! I have to wait till october to get an 8gig on the Telstra $30 a month plan. Not really planning on using the internet on it so no Need for data.
As a have Wifi in my house, would the internet on it be free when I am in access of the connection?
@iTim.
Optus have said, some charges may apply for wifi.
But for the most part, i think it’ll just affect your home internet.
I’m sure there is someone on here, that has an iPhone, and would be able to inform you more.
Also,if you have to wait for october… DUDE.
Just get another phone.
:/
i’m pretty sure ther will be no WiFi fees for at your home, its just like the iPod touch. Also optus gives free access to their WiFi hotspot, not that there is many.
Anyone know how long till optus gets more 8gig in,
if they have run out?
The biggest problem i found is that when you talk to different stores/dealers they all have a different story on when they will come back into stock.
When i was in the business of selling moblie phones, we was told nothing or very little of when stocks would be coming in or told some BS from someone that has no idea of when stocks would be coming in, so resellers will just make things up as they go.
I spoke to a few store on the day of release and was told a different story from just about all of them and i spoke to the same stores chains in different areas.
Best one was when i rang a store and spoke to one person and was told it will be next week then rung back to place an order and spoke to another person and was told 3 weeks LOL.
Best thing to do is place an order with you local store and keep looking around, if you see one elsewhere, get it and cancel the order as someone else will snap up you cancelled order
Wireless data at home is free and does not show up on your data usage in the settings although with the weather and a quick GPS query I used up 7mb of data in one evening - Thank god I am not paying for the bdata on this phone - I love my company…
If you get the mobile me do you still pay data charges for the pushed e-mail on top of your annual fee??
yeah, unfortunately the only decent 3G provider down here in tassie is Telstra, but they seem to be getting more stock every few days. Might pop in and get one in the next couple of days…
does anyone know how to download the pwnage tool for the iphone 3g, or any other way of jaibreaking the new iphone 3g. thanks
Thx everyone gto te answer!
Hey guys,
Well im preety pissed ofFFFFF!!!!
I ordered my iPhone , Paid for it and everything…
I was supposed to pick it up yesterday and was told it wouldn’t be available for another 2 weeks!!!!!!
Im sooo sad… =[
LOL...
Anyway... Ill talk 2 u soon.
By the way that info. was given to me by Optus......
=]
Oh Poo!
so u guys are telling me that there are no stock at all!?!?… well, besides Telstra!! hahha
i’m gonna rock up to some stores later today to see if i can order one.
I envy the people that have an iPhone Right now!!!
on sunday i saw a girl holding a white 16 g iphone and taking pictures while ppl crowding, felt like flushing her head down the toilet!
My better half waited in line at an Optus store in Perth and got one (16g white) on the release day. I was working (*&^(% and went in Monday and ordered a 16g black. Today spoke to the nice girlie in the store and she said they had received a shipment of 8gig and expected a shipment of 16gig tomorrow…hopefully i`m not to far down the list and will get one. I am a bit worried that even Apple is in short supply….
i got mine today from optus Perth. They said it was there last one but as i was feeling out details a delivery boy dropwed off some boxes wich contained about 10 iPhones apparantly. So if your in Perth get to Garden City if you want one
@iTim.
as long as you’re hooked to your own or your
neighbourhood’s network
no fee is applied… just simply imagine that you wire your iphone to your router. It only affects download quota on your broadband plan.
@wotnoiphone
No, mobile me annual fee belongs to Apple which is fixed. and data charge belongs to your carrier ..
@fatpanda
As I’m mostly staying in CBD area, I don’t find any difference between Optus and Telstra (tested both on my 3G iphone) Over most residential area, Optus has less 3G 2100 Mhz coverage than Telstra does. As city area is covered by 2100 Mhz network by both Optus and Telstra,you won’t get that much benefit from Telstra if you stay around city area most time (except bigger wifi coverage)
@gibo
it hasn’t been released yet
Above data is based on Sydney network status. so it may vary depends on your location.
How much data does the GPS system use during “Gerneral” use?
I’m looking at a iPhone for Light Web use. emails and iPod and the Phone feature.
Last question… how easy is it to use 250megs of data?
Im soo used to Unlimited Internet from telstra and every month with out fail I have been shaped.

Does the iPhone automaticaly uses the Wifi connection for email and maps insted of 3G networks?
The iPhone will ask you to connect to Wifi before the app starts to load.
got mine today from Strathfield!
Totally unexpected!
:)))))))))))))))
Im trying to put music onto it and im dragging the files over but its not letting me??
What do i have to do?
Ive unplugged and plugged it back in several times, nothing!
HELP!
I went to the optus store on Friday morning to get one but i didnt pre-order so i had no chance of getting one.
so the next day i went to optus and got a raincheck on a 16gig, they said it would be in on Wednesday but it arrived today.
i dont care that i had to wait almost a week, im just happy i have one now:)
@zmac
press “iphone” on the left side and in the window go over to music. then you can select sync all music or just select playlists then press “sync” in the bottom left corner of the screen then let it snyc. all done.
It,s done I have my Iphone on the 3 network, and it works great. I paid in full from optus then they unlocked it for, free of charge. 3 plans are much better value then the other telcos. and there reception is equal to Telstra. Im so happy now
went to the shops today. every store except crazy john’s had none.
crazy john’s had only one 8 gig left… i went in and soon found out that it was under vodafone contract, the stupid lady kept persuading me to get it… umm.. excuse me!!? i dnt want no stupid contract!!!
i have a feeling i’ll order mine from allphones and just use my regular sim..
is that possible??
@Hehenotfunny.
No, that’s not possible, unless you’re planning on unlocking your phone..
Even if you get it from allphones, it is still going to be either with Optus, Telstra or Voda.
If you are on Optus pre-paid right now, i think you you buy the pre-paid version of their iPhone, you could use your old sim card in it.
But other than that, you will be on a contract.
i think if you*******
@name101
GPS connection doesn’t cost money, GPS only delivers tiny amount data in form of “DDD°MM’SS.S” format. By updating& analysing this data, your GPS device determine your location, movement speed, etc. But when you download map image based on this data, it costs money (it’s still only tiny amount of data)
@Hazza
If your iPhone is assigned to certain network, it will automatically change to Wifi mode without asking whenever you move into the range.
@zmac
lol you must have no experience with iPod product.
you need iTunes applications first. If you already have, set up your itunes library
first then sync with iphone. You can manually drag& drop by checking “Manage songs manually ” option.
@Hehenotfunny
it’s probably impossible at the moment, but I believe you will be able to do so
whenever iPhone 2.0 crack is released.
cant belive it rainchecked 16gb iphone last week in the white it finnally arrived, whilst at the store getting sync was told that the phone was faulty and would not read any sim card.after trying 4 or 5 optus sims gutted now have to wait 3 to 4 days for replacement.has its happened to anyone else or is mine the first in perth? aust?.had it in my hands for less then 10 mins
thanks for the info so far guys. One more question. Do you need to configure the gps because mine thinks I’m in melbourne but I’m actuly I’m Perth? By the way it’s not a blue dot it’s a big circle around the whole of melbourne. I havnt tried it out side of my home network either.
wow! thanx Rhiannon and min park! i didn’t know that!… seriously.
i’m with voda, do u think voda’s going to release a pre-paid one - anytime soon?… hopefully if it does i might be able to use my current sim. my current is with voda on a contract, its able to access the internet… and i like my number! hehe
and if it doesn’t, then hopefully the iPhone 2.0 crack will be released soon.
@ hazza
I assume the GPS function is off ?
make sure you go to Setting->General and
‘Location Service’ is turned on.
I just got an iPhone 3G 16gb white from marion telstra dealer. Its awsum! im so happy with it… i went on a plan for 35 a month its a pretty gd deal and im happy
Location Service was turned on. But it works fine, i went for a drive and found the little blue dot was tracking me down the correct street. Must have been something about my WiFi setup that screwed with the gps and made it think i was in melbourne
Anyone know any good free iphone games sites?
Also…
Question for OPTUS iphone-ers.
How can i check my monthly usage??
Why is everyone saying that a 24 month contract is bad??? It’s cheaper over the long term… I’m confused??? What’s the downside to it???
Weren’t the ppl in the US able to update their iPhone contracts once the 3G was out??? Explain PLEASE!?!?
iPodlord, i’d personally rather not lock myself into a 24 month contract as the 12 month gives me more flexability to change it up in a years time.. i’m planning on signing up to a 12 month contract with optus within the next week or so, and that will give me the flexability to switch carriers in 12 months if I wish to.. there’s no guarantee that i’ll love the iPhone (specifially due to a lack of physical keyboard).. so signing up to a 1 year contract means i’ll be able to switch it up in 12 months if need be.. as well as the possibility of in 12 months time.. the next iPhone coming out & in the event of other carriers having better plans, i’ll be able to take advantage of that
Am coming to Australia from u.k. iPhone is only available on o2 officially here. I believe! Just wondering if anyone has suggestions for roaming Internet. It costs £50.00 /month to have 50 mb (about 25 australian dollars) if I use the o2 bolt on. Any thoughts?
ah isn’t £50 equal to $100 aus dollars!?!
yes, I only have half a brain!
@min park:
Thanks for the reply. I did mean downloading the maps on the iPhone. but only a tiny amount sounds good.
@zmac
I have to 2nd that question. How do you check your monthly usage on Optus?
And a final note:
yeah one year contract provides flexibility and and is only a tiny amount more expensive in the short term. but the reason i will go with a one year contract it that if you look 2 years ago at phone contracts they were terrible(compared to now). same price and less data less credit per month. and those people are still paying the same price from 2 years ago.
so every year you can change your plan according to your usage and credit needs.
thats just my opinion.
~Regards
Name101
@zmac& name101
you can check usage only on customer care… which is very annoying… they should allow people to check usage on web or something..
Honestly, as an Optus user, their call centre is terrible… not all the time… but most time …
Zmac,
There is a function on the phone that allows you to check your data useage, check in the settings area. My partner has one and shown me it does have the facility. Meanwhile, I`m still waiting for the call to pick mine up …
Settings > General > Usage..will show monthly data used over the network, apparently this will not include what you have used over a wifi at home so you can assess your actual limit according to your plan.
Still waiting…
Happily.
._.
Rhiannon, i know how you feel… =[ exept im not so happy
thanks for the help guys, i knew about the Settings > General > Usage section, but i wasnt so sure it was my internet usage, becoz i had watched quite a few youtube videos and my usage was reading only 20mb.
I wouldnt mind some good Iphone games without having to pay…but thats not going to happen is it?
zmac: my brief experience with the app store is that there are alot of useless app’s that are not worth having.. and any that are worth having.. you’re going to have to pay for! Having said that.. $12.99 for a game on the iPhone is alot cheaper than what most Xbox & PS games are going for at the moment.. with the newest ones up to $120ish
Hmm ordered mine Monday 14th…still waiting…come on Optus..CALL ME !!
I got my iphone from optus 8 gig , so far not happy with it. Have 2 questions if anybody can answer
1) on the same wifi connection (adsl2+) the youtube video downloads 10 times slower than my laptop ..why is that ? even the frigging virgin radio free app was buffering …
2) will we be able to make voip calls on the optus internet data plan ? or as steve jobs said it will only work on wifi ?
f*** hell if these 2 issues are not solved i have to sell the bloody fone
and they are the only things you hate about it?
@niws
yeah it’s cheaper than games for other consoles. However, considering quality of the games, I don’t think iPhone games are cheap
@jack
even though they (laptop and iPhone) are connected to same network, laptop has far better data transfer structure and processor. Also I find this iPhone 2.0 is really slower than previous versions. I think it is because the os is now much heavier
there were few voip applications developed for hacked iPhone so I hope they will release new versions for 2.0 soon
I found out from the whirlpool forum that the problem with wi-fi is a known issue…but i am hoping that will be rectified
i used the app truphone which works perfectly on my wifi ..but when i switch off wifi it doesnt work. Does anybody know if voip will work on Optus 3G network and be counted in the data plan ?
Any help is appreciated. Btw Fring has voip software which is in beta..and which works with skype, gtalk etc..i am just not sure if i should install it as its not officially available on the appstore.
If anybody has used fring with optus 3G let me know if it works.
Jackaroo
Dont worry about it ..i confirmed that voip wont wor k over Optus 3G
this was my first mac product and it definitely sucks…i am glad i didnt buy any other mac product before.
@Jack:
In Apples Defense I have a MacbookPro and im loving it. for what I use it for. I wish i got a Mac earlier.
out of one charge of the battery i have 3 to 4 hours battery life for typing for school and i have boot camp for computer games.. when windows is just idling No Games or other software i have 2 hours max battery life.
There are many other things that i find so much better in My opinion.
@Min.park
Reading about things like that make me a little nervous to switch back to optus. That was half the reason I left to go Pre-pay Virgin Mobile.

Hi All,
JUST GOT A CALL FROM OPTUS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT ME 16 GIG WILL NOT BE HERE UNTIL THE 12 OF SEPTEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GUESS THOSE OF US STILL WAITING WILL BE FOR A WHILE! Can’t see how Apple intends on 22 more countries in August, Good luck!!!
dpearman try allphones (if there is one near you).
i went in today and they just got a massive stack in, they were having trouble with the computer system but they are holding one for me so i can go back tomorrow and get it.
i went to the optus world around the corner and they said it would be a long time before they got any in.
stublu, thanks for the tip will do
what price are all phones selling the iPhone for? or which plans & which carriers? I may have missed it, but couldn’t see anything on their web site!
there is nothing on their site that i found, i dont know who they are doing the phone for but i know i am getting it with optus and on a plan (sorry that wasnt much help)
that’s alright mate, i’m considering purchasing on optus as well however reading of other experience & them being in for a 2 month wait, not so sure anymore
I just picked up an iphone (16gb white) and have ordered another 2 for the business. I was told they have ample supply and are still getting their alotment each wednesday and friday, dont know what all the fuss is about.
dpearman, what state/city are you in? I am having a simular experience. I ordered mine the Monday after release and went into Optus in Morley (Perth) they told me that they are only getting them in dribs and drabs and I would probably be wiating for another 10 days… litle bit different from that you are told when you sign up for the plan (7 days)..fairly ticked off!
Trev007 i am in Vic, what is really annoying me is that i know people are getting them, I could walk up the street and get an 8 GIG right now! i signed up i launch day! My store hasn’t got any stock in? I am 2nd in line! Every other store I have called have been getting stock in every 1 - days! I too am really annoyed!
Anyone heard news on 3 getting the iphone? I have called them previously all they say is it shouldn’t be long, keep waiting……….hope it’s sooner rather than later!
funny you shuold ask macca as i was in my local three store today and have some great news for you iphone folk. straight from the manager it will be out in 3 weeks also three will be providing a special data cap for the iphone as well which will cater for abuot 2 gig i think he said no idea on pricing yet , but he did hint at no upfront cost for the phone, just pay per month . hope this helps you out
Trev007
im in perth, and i would highly recommend that you stay away from allphones midland.
long story short, they are all idiots and for some reason dont want to sell me an iphone. they told me i would be better off buying it off ebay or getting an N95 instead.
Since launch of Australia Apple store, there has been no change made to price rate. Even though Australian dollar has been fairly similar to US dollar, the ‘old’ ratio is still applied. Well, it’s ok because the pricing is set by various factors. However Apple still ripping off Australians with some items. For instance, let me list some example. (product name and price may not be 100% accurate)
Zenheiser mvx 100.
A$199.95. = US$119.95
Bang & Olubsen earphone
A$349.95. = US$199.95
and we still have very limited shopping list for our iPhones. Why apple don’t do international shipping ? Well it doesn’t have to be individual shipping but they can do it like many other global companies do - co-shipment with regular stock delivery. Another thing really pissing me off is only local credit card can be used at apple store. I’ve never seen this kind of policy among global companies. I still love Apple’s product but their policies give so many limitations. For instance “you have to use iTunes to use our mobile phone. you cannot play contents in it at other locations, you have to delete all informaion in the phone if you want to upload A single information from other computer but you may not if you purchase our me.com account, iPhone has big 16gb of hard disk space but you are supposed to fill it with purchased contents not your own file via DISK MODE”
apple has good marketing strategy but looking at them from users point of view, they are greedy as much as microsoft is (or used to be)
Stublu, Thanks for the tip. I am committed with the Morley Optus store as I signed up for one there. Much like dpearman, I see people at other stores getting theirs well ahead of me, really annoying how they are being sent out in such a crap method.
Well Trev007,
I had enough today! canceled my raincheck at my local Optus World store and went to MyMAc in Melbourne and picked up a 16 GIG White iPhone! I was so sick of all these other people getting their hands on iPhones so i rang Optus directly and they said i could cancel my raincheck and that is what i did!
It was easy 15 minutes and all done! If you are sick of waiting and have a raincheck find a store that has them and just cancel and get it from them. I can only work for new customers, however.
cheers and good luck everyone! My wait is over finally!!!!
Good work dpearman, I`m now in my 3rd week of waiting. Only problem is Perth is so far removed from anywhere, we dont have Mac stores, only a few resellers and I dont think they are stocking. I considered cancelling but not sure as I signed up for a plan to get the rain check.
Hope you enjoy the phone and was worth the wait….I`ll be sure to post when I finally get mine. Its got me beat how they plan on going ahead with the rest of the countries yet to get it, with these supply/demand delays.
unlucky trev. I just rocked up to the optus stall in garden city Perth. Asked for an 8 gig and got one ( there last one) and this was a week from the launch. Whilst I was there they got a delivery of more.
Also we have DigiLife stores which are just apple stores in disguise but they don’t sell iPhones.
Thanks for the info mickstrix….I hope the manager of the store 3 was right. I had my name down with an Apple Next Byte and got a call today. They are selling them through Telstra. 8 gig $950 outright plus $150 fee from Telstra to disconnect. WTF! Bring on 3 or I’ll be buying one from Optus.
@ mickstrix
I think the manager at your local 3 store is full of it. My mates that work at 3 don’t even have any idea. Some of them are in head office as well. I wouldn’t hold your breath for a 3 week launch.
I see in the latest news online that Virgin Mobile has now taken on the Iphone selling from August 1st.
I just went to NextByte and they sold me an Iphone, CHARLOTT ST brisbane have heeps
I’m still waiting.
Apple and Optus are beginning to piss me off.
A friend of mine, was able to buy a Voda iPhone off their website, and recieved it in 3 days.
-.-
hey you guys,
i went to my local optus store in sydney and the indian guy told me that all optus stores are now only selling iphones on pla…only! they will NOT unlock it for you… so you cannot buy the phone outright anymore!!!!! grrhh, he told me if i wanted to complain than i should ring up the optus company and complain there!! he says i can get the prepaid version but must order on the internet, and so i asked when can i get it unlocked or when can i get it outright and he said that they won’t unlock it until after 6 months or he thinks that you can buy it outright in 2 months or so!! that rediculous!!! i’m so upset, what am i suppose to do!?! how am i going to get one outright now? i’m currently on a contract with voda now and i am able to download data, but yea i am very confused, i’m so tired of asking arrogant workers!
Rhiannon, I`m with you..been waiting since Monday 14th when i signed for a rain check phone on a plan….
Hehenotfunny,
had the same problem..
here’s what i did.
I bought the iPhone from telstra for 749. outright, no contract.
If youre in sydney, make sure you go to telstra shop @ broadway. The telstra shop (bitch) @ world square dosent sell it without a plan or contract, even if you go with the outright one.
Unlock it by paying 150.
they say that it took 3 days to unlock it, but the day after, its already had been unlocked.
Im with voda right now.
cost a bit more, but you can get it fast.
hey guys,
i got my black 16g iPhone yesterday! so happy! although, I was very pissed off with optus, i had signed a raincheck the day the iPhone came out! and i only recived it last night, optus DID NOT deliever on this one! but im just glad ive got mine now=]
My classic iphone is too out date now.
Can’t hardly wait to get the new 3G.
Got an idea where to shop now, thanks all post.
Patrikko,
thanks for the info!!!
i’m going to give Broadway Telstra shop a call before i go cause i dnt want no misunderstanding.
i cant believe i’m doing this but i think i might actually buy something from Telstra!! omg.
thank you so much!!
but 150 for unlocking!? geez a bit much? hehe
ummm… hopefully they’ll sell the 16gig white one for me!
apparently iphones are exclusive at the moment in australia… and companies think that only exceptional capped customers can have them… pfft.. i’ll show them!! i’ll get one before the iphone boom comes along!
Got an 8gb iphone from the local All Phone store on the optus cap plan. Walk in walk out in 20min
They do prepaid as well and unlocking should be no problem. Free on plans and $80 for prepaid. The unlocking for optus is through their call centre anyway so don’t listen to some half witted sales rep in retail stores telling you otherwise. There’s been so many mis-information out there in the retail shops. Tell the optus customer help you’re going overseas and need the phone unlocked.
For those waiting for 3 to pull their finger out check out this link from APC mag. I hope the info is right!

I finally got my iPhone, in fact I. Typing from it right now and supprysingly it is quite easy to type on, espessialy in widescreen safari mode. The battery isn’t too good but when I charge it every night it is ok, one thing I am really annoyed about is there is no serch feature for the iPod I mean WTF? I ordered mine through vodafone and it took them 2 1/5 weeks to do the credit check and deliver it but I’m just glad I got it now. Neway I am now a happy iphone owner and I wish everybody luck in Getting thier’s. Bye
Rc’ed a 16g Black prepaid @ OW Nth Sydney on 11th,till date no news,wondering should i still hold on or cancel the crap ,is apple store selling prepaid 16g black

I was actually contemplating on getting a BlackBerry Bold when it comes out…
:/
I don’t know..
i really want an iPhone though.
funny my local allphones store has none iphones, zilch.
local voda, optus, strathfield, dicksmith and allphones have none!! how many did they order!? god!!
i’ve been walking around, no one has an iphone to show off so there must be something up apples sleeves.
bloody give me one!!
it’ll be harder for me cause i want it unlocked
Hmmmmmm nearly a month now since I rain checked mine with Optus Morley….everytime I speak with them I get the same response ‘7 to 10 days to get your phone from ordering”…ahhh yeah right….
i have a feeling it wont come for another month.
thats what the optus guy told me!
lol.
it doesn’t bother me when i get mine now..
i’ve had my iphone fix.
