theres a 5 minute quicky of Job’s announcement, and when he gets to the end, and is talking about worldwide roll-out, the last thing he says is “rolling it out at a maximum of $199 across the world”
which would mean a maxiumum price of $210 after currency conversion.
Yes the price according to Steve Jobs keynote address at 11.46AM said the price would be $199 US for the 8 gig and $299 US for the 16 gig ALL AROUND THE WORLD. (http://www.macrumorslive.com/) I have been telling friends to lay off buying other devices until you at least see what the amazing gadget can do. No body believed me. In the next month they will all be eating their words. This is clearly the the best piece of technology I have seen. Bring on the hype!
does neone know when optus will be relesing it..i asked around the shops today and they couldnt say coz they didnt know!! they didnt even know abt the website which i think is so STUPID gosh tehy need to freakin train their stff..nehoos am lost..neone related or close to optus know when n how long it will be when its released?????
also i went to the apple store today and the lady said it was going to sell for 700????? how is that possible???? there r so many mixed messages floatin around…nebody know? also if so, its not fair at all..better of buyin it online through apple US? what do u all think?????
to ipsum: optus told me via email after i paid my deposit that it will be on the 11th of july. That being said i would wait and not buy it via the U.S. site as you will be waiting a few days after the Aus release date to get your hands on it. As for being 700 dollars i highly doubt it i think it will be around the 200 dollar mark. Only thing i am curious about is what sort of plans optus will be bringing out to satisfy the iPhone users data needs.
Bummed that Telstra did’t get the gig. anyone know if it’ll be locked like it was in the US. Was thinking I could simply buy the phone outright, instead of on a contract and run my Telstra SIM card…
i’m currently locked in a telstra contract for the next year and a bit - what does that mean for me? will i have to pay to get out of my contract in order to get one of these?
Does anyone know what optus are offering in terms of plans?
I fail to see how people expect this wonderful piece of workmanship to cost only $210. The iPod Touch is $399 for the 8G model. It would seem a bit strange that the iPhone would cost less, when It’s basically an iPod touch with enhanced features and Phone capabilities. It’ll be around the $400 mark at the least, and even that’s optimistic.
ii agree i have a feeling that the iphone will be around if not above 500doll mark…..i called optus up today and the nice lady read me her “optus mail concerning iphone” and said that there is no plan u can but it outright but it will be locked to the optus network so u would have to use or be using an optus prepaid card….
and she also said that we as in the ppl whi have paid via online deposit would prob have to wait outside the shops from 7am!!!!! i mean serious talk abt piority treatment!! neways she said price hadn’t been disclosed to them…but she said it would be highly unlikely that it would $700 (as i men in my previous post abt what the Apple store told me) so i guess that is a bit of gud news!!
if ne one as ne info at all plz plz post it here!!
ok some one has probably said this already but the all mighty that is Steve jobs said in the keynote that the 8GB iPhone will be $199 all around the world sooo yay!! On that front we can only hope the 16GB will follow suit and be $299 booya!!
Ok soo i just talked to my cousin who works at the apple store and he told me that the iphone 3g will start at a higher price like $700 and drop down to an eventual price of $199 once the iphone rush is over!
ok,
you all need to stop believing what Australian Stores are telling you,
and listen to the CEO of the god damn company!
“Rolled out in 70 countries, rolled out july 11, rolled out at maximum $199 EVERYWHERE”
That means all happening at the SAME time, during “roll out”, so, the release.
Apple sets the price of their products, stores have no choice, thats why you cant get “special deals” or sales on apple products at resellers.
Apple has set the $199 price so that it is economically affordable for everyone, so i doubt they’ll allow resellers to sell them at a rediculous price.
Even if its priced in comparison to Apple store prices, (ie. 16gb = $299 and current iPod Touch = $299), they should only cost $299 and $399 in Australia.
Alos I have included a link to the Optus iPhone site as I had I had a little trouble trying to naviagte to it from Optus’s normal site. Thought that this might make it a bit easier for everyone… Happy days everyone! Happy days!!! http://www.optusiphone.com.au/home.aspx
apparently its gonna be $1500 i dont belive it tho, i fugured it would be more like $700. oh and to the people who think its gonna be $210 YOU WISH ahahah
To Ruby: Please read, we’re saying Steve Jobs said it would be a maximum of $200 all aorund the world because Apple held a survey of some sort that was people who wanted an iphone but didn’t get one (their reason for it) 56% of people said price so it’s going down dramatically because with that number they’ll make profit out of that 56%. It may be $700 and beyond but then the CEO of Apple would be contridicating himself. Also you said “I figured” which means you guessed the price without backup of information, for all that is confirmed it could cost $10000 but it won’t *-*
I agree with you 100% Spodee. I am more inclined to believe what Steve Jobs says the price will be rather than Ruby’s “I figured”… You are right, he does say a MAXIMUM of $199 throughout the world. Before replying you should WATCH THE KEYNOTE PRESENTATION! Again I will provide the link for those too dumb/lazy to scroll up.
read in ZOO the iphone will cost $199 on a plan and $250 outright thats with optus…. no joke. bottom line ok guys?
its not gonna be 1500 or 700 coz thats ridiculous ok

actually, if you watch Job’s announcement, and do not pay attention to media reports, he states it will be a MAXIMUM of $199 ACROSS the world!

but still VERY excited!!!!
So Telstra has not got a gig. The only full coverage 3rd generation network. I don’t believe it. I wonder who’s fault that it. Apple or Telstra.
It was the Testra boss who is somewhat short sighted!

w00t! too bad for telstra, but what goes around, comes around…

I was up at 3am but all the audio/video rooms were full and I was refreshing gizmodo australia every minute then my Mum caught me ^-^;
I checked some sites for what they think it’ll cost and many think it’ll be around the $210 mark
Sooooo happy *becomes speechless*
I Just put down my deposit at the optus website, do i really need to wait a whole month??
to Donny: You’ll get it 2 hours before the release by what the site says so yes. Damn my parents need to get a credit card XD

sets the INTERNATIONAL price**
pardon me

Is it going to be the recently announced 2nd Gen coming out in the states?
Does anyone know how many iphones are coming to aus?
Okay so if anyone is confused they should just watch the Keynote presentation. It answers a lot of the questions people have been asking about price etc. Watch it for yourself! http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0806wdt546x/event/index.html

$US199 would be the “subsidised” price on a plan. To buy it outright with no monthly commitment would cost more.
apparently its gonna be $1500
i dont belive it tho, i fugured it would be more like $700. oh and to the people who think its gonna be $210 YOU WISH ahahah
My money (haha) is $250 and $350 for plan and $450 and $550 for outright (just a guess though)
Perfect timing…. My tax money is going to be well spent this year
