Imagine an (unlikely) plan from Telstra, the Hiptop plan, which is basically 50$p/m for unlimited everything (but calls)… so, 50$p/m i can get 3G searching, free, all the time! oh yeh!… i know, its just a dream really… But, i kind of hope that someone brings out a wicked plan with free internet, because it would seem that who ever does that (the cheapest) will obviously get more sales…

(simply voicing my opinion)

Optus have just started offering data along with their TurboCharge PrePaid caps. If you recharge with $50 or more, you get a set amount of download data. Although this is nowhere near the capabilities the iPhone will need, it’s a step in the right direction for Optus.

I work in a buying capacity for one of Apple’s resellers. My boyfriend works for another rather large Apple reseller.

Neither of us have heard anything…

The idea Apple has started mainstream talks with resellers, is untrue.

I emailed the local apple reseller and even they don’t know.

It’s either this is an incorrect rumour or they’ve given information to big-city resellers. Or neither and it’s something else…?

I work for Optus. At the moment every carrier is testing the iphone. Apple will not state who is getting it till the last minute.

Vodafone issued a short press release this afternoon stating that it would sell Apple’s handset in Australia later this year, as well as in New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, South Africa and Turkey.

A spokesperson for Vodafone Australia confirmed that the carrier will release the iPhone locally in 2008, but could not provide any further information on the model, the price, the release date, or if Vodafone would be the exclusive carrier.

“The carrier would not say whether the agreement signed between it and Apple was exclusive, however, it is understood Telstra and Optus will also offer the device.
Optus, Apple and Telstra declined to comment.”

I saw the Vodafone release late Wdnseday

When I did a jumped on the Apple Oz site and on one of the pages there was a picture of the iphone. Roll the mouse over it and it said iphone. No link just the pic in the middle of the page.

Tried to find it again yesterday but it was NOT to be found for love or money. Id say i caught it as someone was testing a page. If thats the case then Apple Oz is preparing to put the iphone links in it’s Oz web sites

Spoke to a reseller here in newcastle and they are not saying a thing. just quoting the Vodafone release and doing a Shultz (Hogans Heros - ” I know nuthin!, I know nuthin!!”)

Spoke to A vodaphone reseller today. Others had just said that they know nothing except the official release but this guy said that
yes vodfone were going to sell
Yes it Was going to be 3G

Vodaphone and Optus were going to sell

No comments as to pricing, bundles, plans etc. he expected something next month

Tesltra was NOT getting it. His wording. but ? grain of salt? bit of marketing blurb? if so why say Optus was in but Telstra was out

I found that an interesting view and this guy did seem quite sure. but who knows?

As for the Telstra comment given that
1. telstra have previously bagged Apple and the iphone

2. Telstra have the EDGE but not a full 3g yet and the Oz phone is (supposedly) full 3g

maybe short term this guys comment was on the money

One thing for sure EVERYBODY is trying to second guess everything :)

Telstra is total 3G. And EDGE
They were stupid to not release it in the first place.
They missed out on the double sale of early adopters then re-purchasing the 3G version when available
