The iPhone Dev Team have been working solidly for many months to bring us the most powerful iPhone tool yet, Pwnage. It modifies your bootloader to allow unsigned code (non-apple-authorized firmware or IPSW) to be loaded onto your iPhone, through iTunes. Also included in the pack is a IPSW creator that allows you to edit the default Apple firmware to be jailbroken, unlocked and activated. That’s right, no more lengthy (yes, 45 seconds is a long time!) unlock procedures, you can now have your iPhone hacked right through iTunes, easy! Currently, only the mac version is available, but within a few days the windows version will also be out.

I so need the new firmware, as it will finally let me access the net via my university’s wireless, but the only thing keeping me from actually switching over are the installer apps that “Australianise” your phone.
I’ve tried to unlock it for THREE network and it didnt work. i can use any sim card but three.
