Khaled- I don’t think so. They’re waiting for a 3G version to be released. If they were going to release a 2G version in Australia they would have done it back in December when they were supposed to be released here.

Mate where do you get your information?

I was actually told by a Telstra employee 2 weeks ago (and a Crazy Johns employee yesterday) that Vodafone were getting the initial contract, for a period of 6 months. This is coming directly from two different phone dealers.

I would just like to inform you that Telstra has been testing a nextG version of it for about 6 months and is in the stage of retesting atm.

Just a quick note. I’ve heard down the “wire” that because Telstra has it’s own music site and 3 mobile has it’s own music sit it is in direct conflict with iTunes store and will not be getting the contracts because of this.

This came from the US though but who knows!

I’d imagine that this is a great reason for it not to be on with their networks.

yea telstras the main player so far because they are the only ones who support the EDGE (aka nextG network) in australia.

i think it’s interesting to note the specs, they are looking for somone to design a search program. a program to search what? i’m thinking that if telstra took on the iphone one of the conditions of it was that the itunes store was disabled, so this might be a way to search the bigpond music collection as an alternative.

not definitatve, but thats how it looks to me.

It will probably happen with new 1.2.0 firmware release. The new firmware will be release on late June, and that means iPhone will take its cloth off !!!
But I wouldn’t expect it will be a 3G version… actually I don’t care because I already have one and no problem to use it. 3G service cost is still damn high.. so no point to use it. Stick to wifi !!
