Would love to know how/if the phone would work with an Australian sim in it! I’m from the US and have a trip scheduled for next month. You’ll bet I’ll be bringing the iPhone back with me if I can find a crack to have it localised. WIll post again should that come happen!

In previous reports, iPhone hackers discovered a few logos stored within the phone, which included:

1. AT&T
2. Cingular
3. T-Mobile
4. Vodafone

AT&T is the new CIngular, and T-Mobile’s rumoured to being the German carrier. Their sim card has been reported to also work within an AT&T activated iPhone in the US.

I would be curious to see if you could contact Rod to see if he could test out a Vodafone sim card in his phone to see whether his GSM phone featured would be enabled. Any Vodafone sim card should do, including the prepaid red ones you can pick up at Woolies or 7-11.

Nice site! I’m in Oz too. Really hoping they can unlock this phone soon …… I have an old crappy Razr I can’t wait to get rid of.

I’m keeping tabs on the latest at my blog as well — it’s called iPhone Away - as in using the iPhone away from the AT&T and the US.

Hey Cliff, Don’t let this article deter you. You can still use all functions except for Calling, SMS and EDGE. There is a hack to bypass the activation,

Guys,

Went into Crazy Johns today and guess what! The iphone was there as a sample and they said it will be released here in Aus in the few weeks left before Xmas!!! the 8gb is only $419 AUD too! From the limited knowledge that the sales chick had, it will work on all carriers.

Cant wait.
